Here goes nothing…

Started this Substack because I like to write about stuff.

Always been curious.

Always been fascinated by media in its various forms. Not only the contents, but the forms themselves — and how they work on us. (They’re working on you as you read this.) Hence, my favorite philosopher is Marshall McLuhan.

Agnostic. (It’s not the same as atheism.)

Inoculated against all kinds of fanaticism. Usually reluctant to jump on fads. (Is it a “Gen X” thing? Maybe.)

Politically unattached, but I find the extremes distasteful. Not afraid to hear an argument I disagree with.

I can agree with people’s principles and still think their personal character matters more.

Democracy is better than the alternatives, but you will always have to fight to keep it. (There’s a little tyrant in all of us.)

Always assume you haven’t got the full picture. (You never will.)

Maybe we’re using the word “superficial” wrong. Isn’t the “surface” where all the true good shows up, in deeds and words?

Can’t stand pretentiousness and grandstanding. Don’t listen to what they say, observe what they do.

More inclined to suspect something is true than to be certain it is true.

Human, all too human. Getting older. For God’s sake never put me on a pedestal, I’d jump right off.

Everything is downstream from technology. We are not as responsible as we are told we are.

You need art to live! Both the “low” and the “high.” Because the low and the high are alive in you (and if either isn’t, you’re missing a quality of life).

All the big questions remain unanswered.

Comedy is the most underrated of all the arts.

Nerdy. Fascinated by science. (Skeptical of the social sciences.)

Oh, and I write books. You should buy them, because they will entertain you.

Married with wife and child. I live somewhere in Scandinavia.
